My workshop is located in a small village near Hakone, renowned for its hot springs, and offers a close-up view of the majestic Mount Fuji. The abundant nature surrounding me has had a significant influence on my work. Nature is ever-changing, with the landscapes shifting through the four seasons and the various phenomena brought about by different weather conditions.

The vibrant gradations of autumn foliage, the mist swirling through the mountain valleys, and the sight of rice fields swaying in waves as the wind blows through them—all of these natural scenes are motifs in the nerikomi technique I am working on. Nerikomi involves kneading together clays of various colors, then shaping them on a pottery wheel. This process creates intricate, unexpected patterns as the clays mix together. My focus is on how to reflect my intended designs within these naturally occurring patterns, and I approach my work with a unique set of techniques to achieve this.
